Description

Strange what being bored when waiting for the doctor can do. For those of you who don't know (or remember) this is Nikolett, the character in the comic I submitted for anime club this year, after she cuts her hair short. I was going for a different style with this drawing and I think I will keep it because it is starting to grow on me.
Supplies used....pen, just pen.

One thing I would work on if you're going to use the hatching to create shadow is paying attention to where your plains (especially in the face) actually are. The untouched places are obviously going to appear to stick out when you shade in everything around it, and here Nikolett has this kind of odd U thing going on with her face. Her nose is flat against it with no shadows around it, but she's got all these weird lines that are leading her eyes to the sides of her head, so instead of making her look shaded, she looks a little like she's got on face paint or something instead.
What you've got going on with all of the lines is interesting, and reminds me of a lot of old fairy tale illustrations.
But I think you could use them to make the features in her face pop out, and right now she still looks very flat on the paper.
